Wentworth Hotel |
National Mutual commissioned CARR Design Group to refurbish the Garden Court Restaurant as the first stage of the Hotel refurbishment programme.
Situated in a unique location of Sydney, the 200-seat restaurant and 100 seat bar opens into a garden terrace with an abundance of natural light.
The brief was for a light contemporary feel in keeping with a 4 star hotel rating. A polished timber parquetry floor was the basis of the scheme. Modern Australian furniture and the fresh and vivid coloured upholsteries added to the warmth.
The bar and servery design echo the curved building language. The waiters stations, designed as tables rather than cupboards, are topped with hand blown glass bowls for use as ice buckets. Placed throughout the space they create a rhythm for the furniture layout. The focal point of the bar is a wall of 3000 back-lit wine bottles, completing the curvilinear building footprint.
A panel system was devised for the internal curved wall. Five artists were commissioned to provide ‘Food and Wine' themed paintings to the panels. This forming a basis for an art collection that over time, panel by panel, will cover the entire wall.
