Built on a tight plot in Melbourne's Brighton, this imposing villa by the architects Fender Katsalidis is a showcase for a significant collection of Australian art. Elegantly sheathed in curving planes of stainless steel, the house surveys a walled garden with both an ornamental pond and swimming pool. The main Level is a single open space divided into Living area, kitchen-dining and format dining, off which opens a small TV den. An open staircase ascends to the bedrooms above. Below, tucked out of view, is a rumpus room and sunken court for the two teenage boys of the family and their friends. Steps from here lead up to the walled garden.
