A full-service hair and beauty workshop for the busy (comfort seeking) urban professional.
The project brief was quite complex (not just a stright forward hair cutting salon). Within a difficult space (long and narrow) varied proceedures, from facials to full-day total body treatments had to be accommodated.
The primary design startegy was to populate a clean, cool and well-lit shell with a few engaging interventions and a restrained palette of colour and material. Storage is effectively hidden within the walls.
Defined along the space are a number of different realms that serve the specifics of the brief, yet retain a high degree of flexibility.
The threshold into the studio is a luminous blue portal. This blue, one of the few colours used in the studio, is reiterated in the window reveals that frame the intensely blue Brisbane sky. The figurative portal can be spied from outside - a visual motif to refence the studio in the wider context.
