PROJECTS IN BRISBANE

PROJECTS PHOTOGRAPHED BY JON LINKINS

The subdivision of large Residential sites to enable introduction of new single dwellings into existing neighbourhoods has emerged as a new local development type.

Results often receive a negative neighbourhood reception, although as a model for increasing density the principle is attractively minimal, ethical and spatially intelligent.

The ‘Taringa House' project experiments with the potential of this development type.
The 1220m2 site of an existing 40's brick-n-tile house has been subdivided to yield a new vacant 451m2 site, with the relatively nondescript original home on the balance. In a sense the project is only half complete, with design and construction of the new neighbour yet to occur.

Work to the existing house has involved both demolition and addition to establish a new entry sequence, 3 bounded landscape spaces, and an additional pavilion building to the rear.
