$20 million refurbishment of the Sheraton on the Park.
The heavy European style that used to define this 557-room hotel is gone. In its place is a symphony of browns, creams and earth tones, the work of Redfern design firm Chhada Siembieda. And it's hip, baby. Not as blatantly hip as the Sheraton's sister hotel W - few hotels are - but a substantial update nonetheless.
To the left of the foyer is a symbol of the new look, the Gallery. It's a tea room, apparently, but your Aunty Mabel might not recognise it as such. The padded walls, built-in benches and giant cantilever floor lamps give it the air of a groovy '70s nightclub and the collection of photographs by society snapper Robert Rosen - featuring Kylie, Michael Hutchence et al - recalls '80s hedonism.
The refurbishment will include rooms and corridors as well as public areas including the lobby, F&B outlets, club floor and the ballroom.
Located in the heart of Sydney, Sheraton on the Park is adjacent to Hyde Park, and only a short walk to the major department stores accessible through an undercover skywalk. Closeby, are all the attractions including The Australian Museum, Art Gallery of New South Wales, State Theatre, Sydney Tower, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour and The Monorail taking just minutes to reach Darling Harbour.
With 557 lavishly appointed rooms and suites, the Sheraton On The Park offers every facility for the discerning guest including a rooftop pool with dramatic views over Sydney to the heads of Sydney Harbour and the award winning Botanica Brasserie, serving Sydney's best buffet. These are just a few of the reasons Sheraton on the Park was named to Condé Nast Traveler's 2002 Gold List.
