In this five bedroom Edwardian villa in Melbourne, little was changed structurally; Mim design was called in to sprunge up the tired 80s interiors. Mim was asked to make it suitable for family living while also adding a sophisticated, urban touch.
The Edwardian heritage provided the inspiration, says Miriam. The front door, with is stained glass and leadlighting, is echoed in the colour palette adopted in the open plan in the rear.
White and splashes of bold color add punch to moody charcoals and taupes. Dulux Whisper White on the walls contrasts with Delux Organic above the fireplace, which creates tonal unity with the dark marble below.
Statement pieces give this place its personality. The kelly green Doll chair, The Womb chair and the vibrant artworks all evolved from discussions with the homeowners. Centrepiece of the living area is a timber-veneer cocktail cabinet. A reworking of the existing joinery, it is testement to the owners' love of enternaining. Th skygarden pendant in the hallway echoes the mouldings in the original part of the house.
