PROJECTS IN SYDNEY

PROJECTS PHOTOGRAPHED BY QUENTIN JONES

The attached middle cottage is in a row of 3 and its neat, dark brick exterior remains unchanged except for freshly painted woodwork.

However when you enter the front door you see a pure white hallway with its ornate plaster arches and corbels, past 2 bedrooms, an office, bathroom and laundry, all the while drawn to the light filed rear extension.

The back of the house was completely reconfigured in order to create a new laundry and open-plan kitchen / lounge area.

Because it was a narrow site, it was critical to introduce natural light and ventilation into the middle areas. This was achieved by adding a skylight running the length of the new extension in place of a passageway.

Stretching the house from boundary to boundary also asdded some 800mm to its width.

The new lounge area is a refined minimal space with TV, steroe etc hidden inside a 7.6 mtr floating cupboard unit which runs along the entire wall. Hinged steel framed doors open the lounge area directly onto the courtyard.

Landscape designer Paul bagnay transformed the once overgrown backyard into an elegant parterre courtyard featuring pavers in 3 different sizes and Indian granite pebbles, softened by Virginia creeper, star jasmoine and flowering pear trees. At night the area takes on a magical quality though the use of garden uplighting.
