To create a living area at the back of this family home that has astrong connection to the back garden, and to bring light into an otherwise dark house.
The idea here was simple: add an extension to an existing house in Bondi to create a family home with living areas that can access the outdoors and sunlight. The dramatic solution is an addition that sits like a glove over the original house. The corrugated-iron form scoops up over the tiled roof and is joined to the old building by a light screen of louvres. The new room houses the kitchen, dining and living rooms, as well as a loft-like space in the now double-height ceiling. The room flows seamlessly out into the garden and the concrete floor extends to meet the back lawn with no break in continuity.
