KPMG commissioned Woods Bagot to design the 26,000m2 interior fitout having made the decision to take up a lease in the new King Street Wharf development at Site 6 which was a part of the larger King Street Wharf development by the Australand/Multiplex joint venture. Design and documentation had to be completed within an extremely tight timeframe to meet contractual obligations between KPMG and the developer. The interior fitout was completed in an integrated manner concurrently with the base building construction. The project commenced with an intense briefing period where Woods Bagot undertook a series of meetings with representatives from KPMG to allow the development of a flexible and consistent planning solution. Information from the client, stakeholders and staff members ensured the base building and integrated fitout met all requirements. A key driver of the solution was to provide for flexible and adaptable office fitout, including a more efficient, open work environment with reduced churn costs. The process reviewed workspace standards and determined a consistent and revised range of space standards for universal application across KPMG. As part of the review of workspace standards Woods Bagot were able to introduce a flexible, common, multipurpose work area to each floor to satisfy an identified need for collaborative work. Adjacent to this multipurpose area, staff breakout areas are located centrally to each floor adjacent to the lift core to encourage interface and communication amongst staff. The fitout comprises three main zones - ground floor with private auditorium and prefunction space; typical floors (levels 2-14) with a mix of offices and open work areas; and executive and reception floor (level 15) with a mix of catered meeting rooms lounges enjoying spectacular harbour views.
