Cutlers wanted a store which had the design integrity and quality of equivalent boutiques in Italy.
The oppulent materials already associated with this sort of boutique have been retained, however they were re-deployed to suit the architectural design programme.
Amongst the roosts of the leagl professions barristers and amid the banks in Sydney's CBD Cutlers discreet location could be easily missed.
For those in the know Cutlers is a Sydney institution with a history of 4 generations of bespoke tailors.
The designers scheme provides a cloistered space where the business of vestment is undertaken with suitable ceremony.
The filtered space contained is dominated by a wall of joinery (amercian walnut) . The focus is drawn to an array of accessories dispalyed along the wall . Behind the wall are the changing rooms and stairway to the second level bespoke floor.
Here the interaction between client and tailor is personal and extended. It may continue over several meetings as the piece of clothing takes shape. Mahogany cutting tables form previous generations hold bolts of fabric and linings, scissors and buttons.
