Hillside home

Durbach Block had a very skinny slice of land to work on in this Hunters Hill house project.
They came up with the idea that the house being a sort of inhabited retaining wall.
It seemed appropriate for the shape of the difficult site. The idea came from the inspiration of the Jindabyne dam in NSW and the arc of the nearby Gladesville bridge in Sydney
The clients accepted the architects views unlike the local council
The windows are designed to admit light and cross ventilation as well as to screen elements of the foreground, while taking advantage of distant views.. They also act as compositional elements in the curved wall
