The challenge for architect Gerry Rihs and interior designer George Freedman lay in transforming a narrow two-storey terrace built decades ago to accomodate the owners' particular life-style. Top priority was to capitalise as much as possible on the the building's aspect which allows year round sun, and to createa holidayhouse atmosphere. Secondly, the owners wanted maximum space and natural light. They required their house to be as unstructured as. their life-style. Rather than be restricted by inflexible barriers, they wanted to be able to choose where to sit, where to eat and where to entertain.
