From the street the original victorian facade ensures the house blends sympathetically with its environment
Beyond the neccessary concessions to local heritage laws this house is an essay in streamlined simplicity. Calm uncluttered spaces flow seamlessly into one another , creating exactly the environment the clients wanted. - a restful haven in which to unwind after a hectics days work.
Inside, smooth concrete floors and sisal carpets blend with plain walls, timber veneer storage units and large walles of glass.
In the kitchen no-nonsense stainless steel benches and splashbacks provide a cool contrast to the warmth of the timber veneer cabinets. These cabinets actually form a internal wall concealing work places and appliances from the dining area.
At the rear the exterior is a simple, sculptural well proportioned combination of glass and rendered brick. The narrow pool is tucked neatly to one side, leaving plenty of space for entertaining and outdoor living.
The look is austere and clean - a flexible, zero maintenance space which becomes an instant party zone.
Deep windows keep the house cool in summer, while letting in sunshine during Sydney's mild winters.
A cushioned window seat links the the pool area to the kitchen, providing a restful spot to sit, read , daydream and snooze.
