A house that would enable them to live a relaxed lifestyle, focused on entertaining and recreation. The desire was to design a relatively open plan residence of spatial simplicity accessorised with varying cosmetic complexity that would house their needs whilst architecturally commenting on the qualities evident in a playful lifestyle. The form of the house is dictated by the site, resulting in three simple horizontal planes, that sit constrained within the narrow site but are pulled for relief at the front and back. The simple layered slab and roof form is reminiscent of the floating planes of Le Corbusier's Dom-Ino. You enter the middle of the house, enabling quick access to all areas. The lower level being the recreation floor – including ancillary rooms, gym, sauna, cinema, bar, pool, cars etc. and the upper level being the entertainment/living floor – hotel like bedroom suite, kitchen, living, dining, deck. The spatial composition and selection of building products are expressed by a layering of materials and planes to create a juxtaposition of lightness and mass, and to reveal a visual layering and cosmetic playfulness through the varied wrapping and overlapping, extruding and pulling.
