Design Statement
The office is divided over two floors. Arrival presents a view of the studio in action. Long linear workstations are arranged across the floor and divided by large project storage units adjacent and perpendicular to the east-facing wiindow. Planning the work area in such a way took advantage of natural light and accentuated the linear nature of the building.
Reception separates one work area from another, with studio seniors elevated on a raised platform which was a base building element, and became a humorous take on the overseer's role.
Flexible multifunctional spaces for breakout, project and meeting activities are defined from individual work areas with a quirk, either skewed from the alignment of the building or addressed in a timber finish as counterpoint to the stark black and white palette.
The second floor, where clients and visitor are directed after arriving at reception is dominated by skewed elements. Once again again circulation is defined along the inboard side of the tenancy by a thick wall with portals leading to utility spaces - the wall provides a plumb line to which the angled elements can be viewed. A very long table dominates the arrival to the second level. Adjacent to this, the main kitchen conceals itself as a timber box sitting tightly in its portal opening. At an opposing angle beyond is a box containing primary and secondary meeting rooms. Curves injected into the interior of these rooms, the only ones is the fitout, offer an uninterrupted surface for presentation.
