The site was a battle-axe block set into a steep slope with the side section of the building set into the hill and supported by columns.
The approach is from below and up a flight of wooden steps onto a wooden deck. This gives the house an exciting sense of arrival.
Entry is through the cube which acts as both entry and distributor to the main living areas.
Set at right angles to the main pavillion, the free-standing cubes uses 2 skylights to draw natural light into the building.
The open living and bedroom wing is a vaulted lightweight structure. A brick 'link-wall' at the rearconencts 2 opposing volumes and contains the service elements and stairs to the upper levels.
The house was simple in construction and not expensive to build.
It looks onto its own elevated terrace and gardens and by its orientation manages to maintain a great sense of privacy despite surrounding houses.
