PROJECTS IN SYDNEY

PROJECTS PHOTOGRAPHED BY ROSS HONEYSETT

The Point Piper Boathouse is located on a steeply sloping waterfront site above Seven Shillings beach.

The boathouse has been constructed as part of a larger redevelopment of the site, substantially demolishing an existing 4 storey duplex to create a seven level structure containing one luxury 3 level apartment, an upper level two storey apartment with a private rear courtyard, and two levels of harbour side landscape structures including the boathouse on the water's edge.

The main idea for the new boathouse at the water's edge was to place it as an element carved into the hill within the site rather than making a free standing building located within the public space of the beach.

No longer a pavilion but part of the landscape setting of the property, the more discrete presence of the boatshed within the landscape walls of the foreshore has afforded an opportunity to make a room on the edge of the harbour of a very unfamiliar scale and proportion – with 4.5m internal stone walls making the room as high as it is deep.
