Blake Dawson Waldron is one of Australia's leading international law firms, with more than 180 partners and 1,600 staff. They advise on all aspects of commercial activity and government operations. Established more than 150 years ago, they have grown into one of Australia's largest and most dynamic firms.
Unusually shaped floor plates demand an innovative response to interior fitout design.
The fitout occupies 2 floors of the elliptically shaped Grosvenor Place office tower in George St Sydney.
The reception area relies upon strong strong forms and soft lighting to reflect the professional image of the client. A curved reception desk, in black heart sassafras timber, provides the focus and establishes a warm, modern feeling in this area.
Large modern artworks provide the colour and together with the views are a visual highlight.
Although the floor plate is irregular, it was important to develop a modular, efficient layout.
The module for the work areas used 2 different standard sizes - one for the perimeter and another for the core areas. Support facilities were placed along an open plane central spine with bold colours used to identify different work groups areas.
A new concept for the client was the introduction of "cultural hubs" - places where staff can relax and hold informal meetings
.
