PROJECTS PHOTOGRAPHED BY WILLEM RETHMEIER

The buiIding began life as a meat pie factory and for some time after it was silk screening business.

Sculptor Robert Klippel later had it as his studio.

In 1970 Neil Burley bought itas an investment and Allan, Jack and Cottier moved in, gutted the building. And operated from it until May 1986.

Stage two of the refurbishment began when Burley and Partners took over the majority of the floor space.

Partner in the design firm David Katon says, "I always disliked the entry because it came at a 45 degree angle to a tight doorway. It had been designed very carefully to make you think you're in an normal rectangular building.

The thing I always liked about this building is that it is triangular and unusual "

The plan adopted involved changing certain aspects of Allan Jack and Cottier's scheme which, Burley hastens to add, "had extremely good architectural qualities that will never get lost in time."
