The Attorney General’s Department has completed the move into its new headquarters at 3-5 National Circuit in Canberra, which was recently officially opened. Bovis Lend Lease was responsible for the design and construction of the building for owner and developer Industry Superannuation Property Trust (ISPT).
The state-of-the-art 3-5 National Circuit building has a net lettable area of approximately 20,000 square metres and is now fully occupied by the department. It comprises two basement carpark levels, a ground floor area housing office areas and a childcare centre, as well as three upper levels of office accommodation.
Bovis Lend Lease was awarded the contract for the design and construction of the project for ISPT in April 2007. The company was subsequently awarded the construction management contract for the integrated fitout by the Attorney General’s Department.
The 3-5 National Circuit building utilises storage tanks for water re-use and incorporates an energy efficient mechanical system. The building also features a central atrium with an open communication stair and glass-lined lifts to assist the flow of fresh air and maximise natural light penetration. Connecting bridges link the eastern and western sides of the main floor plates.
The extremely large 5,400 square metre floor plates provide the department greater flexibility in terms of interior design and fitout options, future proofing its accommodation requirements. The building has been developed to ensure the Australian Government’s requirement that its tenanted offices perform to a minimum 4.5 star NABERS Energy rating will be fulfilled.
