The Arthur House in Paddington, Sydney, has been designed to capitalise on the sites area, volume and orientation. The site stretches between two streets providing the opportunity, through the manipulation of levels, to make an entire living space on a single plane. The strong horizontal plane of the primary living level interlocks with the volume afforded by the significant fall that occurs across the site. The remodelled house, whilst contextually sympathetic, is atypical to the vernacular Sydney terrace. Its volume and level of natural light craft a sense of grand space that is exaggerated due to the relationship the interior has with the courtyard and studio pavilion.
