INTRODUCTION

Freelance photographer and writer Martin Van der Wal likes to focus on architecture.

Born in Sth Australia his varied career has encompassed everything from mining to yacht restoration.

His photgraphic work has included 5 years on an Queensland aboriginal education and performance project, and a series of portraits of aboriginal artists for the Australian National Gallery.

After studying Fine Arts and philosophy at university, and majoring in renaissance architecture he found his interests lay with the built environment.

This led to his photographic commission for the book Aurora Place - Renzo Piano in Sydney 2001 (published by Watermark Press)
